There used to be lots of gardens in West Asheville. It's time for that to happen again. Let's use this space to share ideas, seeds, plants. I'd like to see the gardeners in our area connect and build community

I would like to grow heirloom tomatoes this year. Anyone have plants to share? I can trade $ or maybe something else like houseplants or guitar lessons.

This guerrilla gardening scene is so underground. Get it?

Thanks for the insight, zen. I am actually out there today building a privacy fence and doing some guerrilla gardening, so you should feel free to stop by and say hello!

If by 'stinky-palm tree' you mean Tree-of-Heaven, Ailanthus altissima! Hooray for you!

I am all for some guerilla gardening too! I have started my own regimen of pulling out problem plants and trimming down those intrusive "stinky-palm tree" weeds behind image420. By piling up all the green matter that was littering the parking lot I have lessened the shadowy cover that drug dealers and prostitutes used to use to conduct their business, making it hard for them to discreetly discard trash behind the building. An added bonus? Next year I will start to get some real rich compost out of it!

Don't be dismayed by your garden failures, Dave. Learn from them! Get tips from the more experienced gardeners around you. I like this idea of urban guerrilla gardening. People are reclaiming spaces. For more inspiration, check out GardenGirlTV (www.gardengirltv.com). She's all about urban sustainability, and you wouldn't believe all that she grows and tries in very limited space.
